How to Claim Your Package at CMEC / EMS PhilPost Office in Pasay

I was very happy to win a bid at eBay and really excited to having the items. From day to day, I’ve been keeping track of the packages coming from Hong Kong. For almost a month, the status remain unchanged: Item for Customs Examination. I then received a letter on October 26th stating I should present a copy of the proof of payment for the items to the CMEC Office located in Pasay. In my head, I already thought that I’ll be summoned and then get extorted.

Filipinos are very well aware of the horror stories from the Bureau of Customs. Stories that gone viral in social media – overtaxed items, hidden charges, missing, lost, or opened packages – and the list goes on. I was hoping none of those would happen to me.

A little bit of research…

Here is the process flowchart from the Customs website. The guards are friendly so don’t hesitate to ask them questions and they’ll be happy to assist you.

VERY IMPORTANT TO KNOW
Shipments under P10,000 are tax free so take advantage of that.

If your package remains in the Item for Customs Examination status for weeks, most likely you’ll be summoned to their office.

How to commute to CMEC / EMS Office?
Ride a bus with the MIA / NAIA signboard and tell the conductor to drop you off at Park ‘N Fly. Go to the PTT Gas Station and walk along the road. Just a few meters from there and you’ll be at the PhilPost Office.

What to bring?
– Two valid IDs
– Your package tracking number/s
– Proof of payment for the package / invoice of the package
– Payment for storage fee (112 pesos per package)

Here is my experience and walk through on how to claim the package 🙂

JpegAsk the guards, they are very nice and will guide you with your concern.

JpegI was instructed by the guard to proceed to the second floor. Here, I presented the tracking number and submitted two valid IDs which they will scan. Afterwards, I was told to proceed at the waiting area while they look for my package in the storage / sorting room.

JpegAfter a few minutes, my name was called at the CVST MS Office window. My package was opened and checked by the Customs Officer. She was a bit strict but nice as well and asked for the proof of payment. The packages did not exceed P10,000 so I was not taxed. Should your items exceed the threshold, you’ll then be presented with a computation of how much you’ll pay.

JpegI was told to proceed to Window #2 and paid only 224 pesos for two packages. I then returned to the CVST MS Office window and showed the receipt.

Overall, it was a pleasant experience. I was very nervous but then it went well!

    Question lang, if ang amount ng binili mo is around 10,500. Ang bibigyan ba nila ng tax is yun 500 lang or ang whole amount?

    2. Hello po kase first time po ako kukuha ng package/parcel from my boyfriend in Japan sa CMEC and it’s already arrived napo i was tracked it.. And medyo malayo samin yon nueva ecija pa po ako Ok naman na po kaso iniisip KO how many ID are need para MA claim ang parcel??

      1. I watched how to claim and they use 1 valid I’d and other says that need to bring 2 Valid ID and I now was. Nervous because but hindi pA naman inaabot ng week actually days palang and I always check and track it and last that I track is “items arrived in provincial office ” so I think it means ready to pick up na kase if incase Wala matanggap na notification or any email from Philpoost I think I should go in CMEC IN PASAY but I don’t know how many ID are need I have only 1 valid and government issued ID paki notice po thank you 😘😍😅

  3. hello!! I just read your blog and I’m wondering if you will only get your ems package in pasay? I am from Laguna and I am kind of nervous or afraid that I need to go to Pasay to get my package. Will they deliver your ems package to your local post office? thank you :)))

    1. Hi Shane!

      Kindly track your package first, if you’ve been waiting for weeks or more than a month, you should receive a letter that your package is on hold in Pasay. If you did receive a letter, sadly – you have to go to the Pasay office.

I receive a text message from phil post (ems) that our package arrived in manila. the text message states that the package held at customs ready for pick up. we live in qc, same as the address of the receiver written on the package, does it mean that we still have to get the package in pasay? thanks for help.

I was feeling a little lost when I received the notice because there were no specifics or contact numbers, or if you can just mail the requirements or bring it yourself, if the processing will take weeks or minutes, etc etc. This was very enlightening. =) Would you know if I could send someone with an authorization?

  11. Hi there! My package is showing ‘customs information’ on the PHLPost Tracking website. What does that mean? Also, I don’t have the invoice because I didn’t buy the item. It was just sent to me as a gift.

    1. Hi gayle! I think it is still for review. Since you don’t have an invoice/proof of payment, kindly ask the sender for it. Screenshot conversations of the item being a gift and print it so atleast you have something to show at the customs.

  14. Hi there! I used my officemates credit card and his name appeared on the receipt as the payor. do I need ID’s of my officemate or mine is enough? In the receipt, my name is the recepient of the parcel.

  20. bought something from e-bay for 50k (shipping included), brought my sales invoice pero sabi sa akin nung fat lady boss ng BOC na gawa-gawa ko lang daw yung invoice na yun and di sya naniniwalang P50k lang daw yung binayaran ko kaya she demanded P10k from me. This happened almost exactly a year ago.

    Tanong lang po. Nagpadala po kase saken yung boyfriend ko ng letters and somes of the gift. June 19 palang nasa Custom na pero until now nasa custom padin. Kailangan ko bang kunin pa yun sa philpost or wait still.

  25. hello. how many days n yung packqge ko.july 5 pa yun until now wala parin hindi nadedeliver in my hands. need ko na mga papers ko ilng days nlng ng natitira. nakalagay sa tracking event july 11 p madeliver.until now wala. kilan pa b madedeliver yan?pgdating sakin expired n mga papers ko. kaya nga EMS pra 3days lng pero bkit gnun..plzzz reply.

  27. Hello, I have a question po. The tracking page that I use has not been updated in weeks and it says that the current status is “foreign receipt” and it’s in pasay. Do I have to wait for a notice letter to get my package?

  28. Hello! Is CMEC / EMS Office open in weekend too?
    My package been stuck in ‘Item for Customs Examination’ for a week now, I’m really starting to get worried so I’m thinking of going there to get my package. Airmail packages or any packages held by custom can be claimed there as well right? Thanks in advance! 🙂

        Also for example I able to claim my package in pasay, is there a bus somewhere near pasay office too or do I need to call a taxi to get back home? (I’m from pasig)

      2. Hi Ken! I believe only QC’s offices are closed during SONA. Pasay is way too far from QC so i think they are open. 🙂 Yup there’s a bus that goes straight to EDSA/Fairview/Monumento 🙂

        As for the invoice of the package, a xerox of PayPal invoice is ok right? I bought the item in Japan using Japan proxy so I only have the PayPal invoice as proof of payment. (I could also print the whole site where I bought it, with the picture of the item and price on it just to be sure 😭.)

  31. Hi! Kung 3 weeks na tapos “Item for Customs examination” pa rin, kailangan na ba ipickup sa office nila? Malayo pa naman ako sa office nila, kung pupuntahan ko naman, yung magagastos ko na pamasahe halos same ng item na binili ko from China. Di makatarungan yon! 🙂

  35. hello. i ordered from ebay last july 26 amounting 10k up. last update ng tracking august 10 nakasabi Item for Customs examination. Wala pa ako natanggap na text or any mail as of the moment from the custom. ang problema ko lang is taga mindanao ako. Medyo malaki po gastos if pupunta ako ng pasay office para i claim. another problem hindi siya pwede madelay. perishable items kasi inside. any ideas po kung ano gagawin ko?

    Applicable ba to sa case ko kasi ung package ko is pinadala thru fedex at nagka problem daw sa clearance sa customs(pasay) nag send n kmi sa fedex ng proof of payment ung screenshot sa website na pinagbilhan nmin ng item at screenhot ng bank debit transaction. pero ang tagal ng update ng fedex araw araw kmi nagtatanong mag 1 week na lagi lang nila sinasabi na for approval ng examiner(customs officer). Tinanong din nmin si fedex kung pwede kami pumunta personally since ang tagal ng proseso pero sagot nman nila di daw sure kung kakausapin ni examiner si consignee. totoo ba un? kasi kmi nman ung hinahanapan nila ng proof of payment tapos kmi pa ung di pwede kausapin ni examiner? Nag aalala ako sa fee na babayaran mag 1 week na sa customs eh.

    Itatanong ko po yung package namin na EE074923152PH returned package po iyon failed delivered po nasobrahan po lasi sa no. of items, mahohold din po ba sa customs yun? Pinareturn na lang po namin iyon, kaso ngaun wala na kaming balita hindi na namin matrace walang reply ang EMS at walang nag nonotice samin kahit reply via email or response po sa tawag sa EMS. Sa tracking wala po sya location or office kung nasaan na yung package po. Itanung ko na din po sana kung my tax po ba iyong ganung case na returned items na failed delivery? Kasi po ay product of the Philippines naman po iyon at nataxan na po sya ng VAT upon purchase?
